A fairytale narrative of George Goh Ching Wah

It emerges like an Agatha Christy's  sensational novel on the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot.

When presidential hopeful Tharman Shamugaranam was lamenting the lack of a contestant, divinity seemed to respond by parachuting a most unimaginable omnipotent contestant in the person of the personable charitable George Goh Ching Wah. To many people this was the first time that they had heard of this philantrophic entrepreneur who came from a humble beginning. His rag to riches story is so colourfully portrayed that it is hard to believe that he had undergone such unimaginable hardships to eke out a living in his young days. He could not have received even basic education.

What inspired him to come out to contest the presidential election is a reflection of the man's altruistic  character. The State has enabled him overcome his abject poverty to become a man of wealth and he wishes to redeem his debt to society by doing good deeds to the people And he  thinks that he can, with God's help, humbly accomplish his mission by becoming president. It was a very brave move on his part considering the overpowering stature of his hopeful opponent Tharman Shamugaratnam who local and international reputation can esily send his opponent to bite the dust.

Tharman stands out prominently as a deeply-tainted estabishment figure with all the political baggage trying to masquerade as an independent. George Goh represents a crisp face who could bring a gust of fresh air to sweep out the mustiness of the establishment. So far he has turned out to be a more animated individual than Tharman with his inimitable style of portraying himself to the people.

The choice before the people is whether they want a dyed-in-the-wool establishment figure with all the political baggage to represent them or they really want an independent crisp face to bring some semblance of ideological integrity to the presidency. The Malay would say : do not memterdayakan (cheat or trick) the akal (intelligence) of the rakyat (people). Let the rakyat decide.

There seems to be some kind of imminence of disqualification of George Goh but he seems to be confident of being quallified.

Tharman Shanmugaratnam as President

Is there any  adult in and outside Singapore who has not heard of Tharman Shanmugaratnam? With his superlative  credentials, local and international, he made a once-in-a-life-time senssational announcement  of standing for presidential election in September this year.following the expiration of the tenure of President Halimah Yacob. This may be a surprise to some but not entirely unexpected. Without any iota of a doubt do you think that there will be any challenge from any self-exalted candidate to his presidential aspiration?

Although he made it clear that he was offering himself as a candidate independently after considerable introspection there is no denying that he will be naturally projected as an establishment figure. This is so prominently proliferated  by the SMS and mediacorp ad  nauseam since his announcement of standing for presidential election  A day never passed  without Tharman propagating on TV and newspapers and even a child finds it hard to believe he is not an establishment-sponsored candidate. Will this convey an illusion of hypocricsy? The voters can decide if there is a contest which boggles the mind as it is clear that Tharman will romp home without any squeak from any contestant. So why do the PAP think that there should be an election? Tharmen will just be the right choice for the PAP to fiddle with the reserves like the presidents before  him Halimah Yacob and Tony Tan.

It must be some kind of compassionate divinity that there is indeed a prospective candidate-in-waiting  who is contemplting throwing in the gauntlet for the contest. It is mentioned in the Chinese newspaper Lianhe Zaobao today. He is known as Goh Chin Hwa (my romanisation) (吴振华) who comes from a humble beginning and is now the non-residential ambassador to Morocco  He is an entrepreneur  of Ossia International and is quite well-known in the Chinese community as a charitable man who helped cardboard pickers by supplying them pushcarts and getting Border Mission the buyer to give them a good price.

He doe not match the local and international standing of Tharmen shhanmugaratnam and whether he can give Tharman a run for his moneywill be left to be seen. But it will  a trial of strength that will be the cynosure of the eyes of Singaporeans and of course the outside world.

Arbitrary appointments of defeated PAP candidates as advsors to vanquished constituencies

PAP's arbitrary appointments of defeated  PAP candidates as advisors of vanquished constituencies - do you think this is not an abject lack of morality and a most unkind insult to democracy?

The most recent example of how this could cause the most preposterous charade of skewered authenticity is the HDB organised the MyNice Home Roadshow in Sengkang probably on Sunday 4 June 2023 ostensibly to benefit the residents but more likely to win over voters. The Workers" Party MP Louis Chua had to storm the roadshow univited.  The PAP non-elected advisor Dr.Lim Pin Min and the PAP Sengkang branch manager Ling Weihong were invited instead to grace the occasion with their pompous presence.

What do you think of the autocratic display of high-handed action by the PAP to win voters' confidence? Why are the opposition.especally the Workers' Party so intimidated that they remain reticent. The PAP think that they can get away with their high-handed action to deny the legal opposition candidates from appointments as advisors to the consiituencies.that they represent. ThePAP fully comprehend the psyche f the opposition wards' voters/residents that they will not demur the PAP's high-handed actions in appointing advisors. In fact the PAP is quite safe with all the restrictive laws against unlawful actions and the opposition just could not find the right spark to mount any demonstration.

So is the Workers' Party resigned to its fate of allowing the PAP to go roughshod on this issue? Have they consider legal recourse because I believe that  they think this may be a non-starter. But has the judiciary any jurisdiction over such matter and it is not too late to find out the fact. It's worthwhile to take the PAP to court if this is feasible and there may just be a High court judge who may have a strong spiritual sense of justice and fairplay. Pritam Singh has a political baggage which will be a severe handicap. Tan Cheng Bock will be an ideal proponent  but may feel lack of moral justification with only two NCMPs in Parliament. Leong Mun Wai NCMP will be simply marvellous. He is a pugnacious proponent to such an overwhelming degree that even PAP stalwarts like K. Shamugam came close to shitting.

There must be some kind of unity among the opposition for such action. Good luck to you all if you decide to venture into the unknown.

A roving view of Singapore politics

I have resigned to being laid-back, unobtusive and tranquillity in mind.

I think I have done enough to bait the vaunted PM Lee Hsien Loong the only regret being his stubborn refusal to give me a public apology for his father's sin against me. This may be a divine proclivity.

However, Lee Hsien Long showed uncanny foresight in picking Lawrence Wong as his successor Lawrence Wong excelled among the 4-G leadership  and his emergence as the prospective prime minister is what divinity may have foreboded. He has shown eloquence and oratorical skills equal if not  surpassing Lee Hsien Loong .I was quite sceptical  but nevertheless impressed by his effusive gandiloquence to solidify and unite the people and gave him a deserving adulation on my website. The only sticking point may be his PM-in-waiting may be an eternity.

President Halimah Yacob's tenure will terminate in September and is quite vainglorious in thinking of standing for re-election. She has her aficionados who obsequiosly flattered her to such a dizzying height that she cold have succumbed to her egotism of invincibiliity. But what must have haunted her is the plethora of detractions of her performance of her presidency as six years of wastage. This must have greatly rattled her as it pointedly dawned on her  of the consequences of a defeat. She has to face the ugly fact and not to take the perilous risk. So she is happy and thank Allah by renouncing her dream of standing for re-election.

The uproar over the tenancy of two magnificent  Rideout Road government bungalows by two PAP ministers to me may be said to be a storm in a teacup. That this could provoke a masssive grotesque caricature of improbity by the two ministers shows how easy it is to rouse the people's feelings. The two ministers may be faulted for wanting to flaunt their affluence and grandeur vanity with an abject lack of humility but this is for the electorate to decide in the next poll. It is premature to denigrate the role of Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean who is appointed to investigate any irregularity. We should wait for the results.

Workers' Party shows incomprehensible haste in the expulsion of a senior cadre Daniel Goh for some opague reason.when there is obviously a dearth of talents in the party. It appears to be linked to the misconduct of Raseeah Khan and the party secretary-general Pritam Singh has been shown to handle he issue very badly. Daniel Goh had apparently incurred the wrath of Pritam Singh in his persistent questioning of Pritam Singh's competency

Lim Tean is in the news again in forming a People's \alliance of four opposition parties to contest the next general election. He has as his team mate the formidable Kenneth Jayaretnam. What is significant is the absence of Workers's Party and Progress Singapore Party in the Alliance.in order to make up a united front. So is Lim Tean's People's Alliance going to compete with PAP or the WP and PSP?
